Geo-fences provide useful monitoring capabilities and alerts. The creation of a geo-fence involves two things:
a) Defining the perimeter of the geo-fence
b) Defining the alert criterion and recipients
Step 1:
With the 'Logistics' application selected through the App switcher, select the 'Settings' tab on the menu
Step 2:
Click on the '+ Geofence' button on the top right section
Step 3:
1. Provide a name for the geo-fence
2. Choose the 'Other' category from the drop-down
For help with creating a 'Home Base', refer to this article: 'How to Add a Home Base'
3. Choose buffer zone value.
4. Choose a different color for the geo-fence perimeter, if needed.
5. Draw the perimeter for the geo-fence by choosing either the 'polygon' option or 'circular' option
Pan & zoom-in to the area of interest on the map.
Polygonal perimeter:
Select the polygon/triangle icon on the top right corner of the map view
Use your cursor to click and mark a vertex for the polygonal perimeter on the map. Dragging between different clicks allows you to draw the full perimeter.
Click on the 'scale' icon on the toolset on the right side of the map. This enables location coordinates and distance measurements on the map.
Using a 'click and drag' method, any of the vertices can be re-positioned.
Once the user is satisfied, clicking on the 'Save' button on the top right saves the perimeter definition.
Circular perimeter
Select the 'circle' icon on the top right corner of the map view
Click on the 'scale' icon on the toolset on the right side of the map. This enables location coordinates and distance measurements on the map.
Use your cursor to click and mark the center for the circular perimeter on the map. Dragging between clicks allows you to expand the circle for the required radius.
Using a 'click and drag' method, the center and radius of the perimeter can be adjusted.
Once you are satisfied, clicking on the 'Save' button on the top right saves the perimeter definition.
Step 4:
Create an alert definition
Click on the 'Create an alert' link on the dialog box that shows up when you save the geofence perimeter definition.
In the form that shows up:
1. Choose 'Alert type'
2. Provide a custom 'Alert text' - this will be delivered to the recipient of the notification
3. Choose alert severity - Warning, Caution, or Info.
4. Select recipients for SMS or Email notifications
(All administrator and operations user will receive alert notifications in the web application by default)
Recipients outside your organization can be chosen through the 'Other' category:
Clicking on the 'Save' button on the top right corner saves the alert definition.
Note: The 'Save' button will not get enabled if all the required fields are not populated.
Your geo-fence and associated alert definition are ready.
You can add multiple alerts to the same geofence definition by selecting the geofence from the list and clicking on the '+ Alert' button
